About CBMI
The Canadian Building Manager Institute was founded by a retired BC Realtor who spent years watching building managers fail — not from lack of effort, but from lack of training.
Robert is a retired licensed Realtor in British Columbia with decades of hands-on experience in residential property transactions, tenant relationships, and the practical realities of BC's rental housing market. Having worked directly with property owners, building managers, and tenants throughout the Lower Mainland, Robert witnessed firsthand the gap between what building managers are expected to know and what they are actually taught — or more often, not taught at all.
That gap became the foundation for the Canadian Building Manager Institute and the CPBM — Certified Professional Building Manager designation. Robert created the program specifically for BC and Alberta, where provincial tenancy law, strata regulations, and landlord-tenant dynamics are among the most complex in the country. Every module is built around real situations, real legislation, and the real conversations that happen between a building manager and a tenant at 11 o'clock on a Sunday night.
What makes this program different is the live weekly Q&A. Robert leads every session personally — not a teaching assistant, not a recorded replay. Students bring their actual situations, their difficult tenants, their paperwork questions, and their career concerns, and get direct answers from someone who has navigated these issues professionally for years.
The result is a program that is not just thorough — it is the most thorough building manager program in Canada, built for the provinces where the stakes are highest and the legal landscape is most demanding.
Canada's rental housing sector is growing faster than the trained workforce to manage it. Building managers are being hired with no certification, no province-specific legal training, and no support system when things go wrong. The consequences — for them and for the people who live in their buildings — are real and expensive.
Join the CPBM program and get direct access to Robert every Wednesday in the live Q&A session.
